Acid percentage is not the only thing to
consider when choosing a BHA or AHA product. With both products, pH is
also very important. A lower pH (about 3.0) is the ideal to help the acid
be 'skin-available' and yet not be too irritating. Those
preparations with a pH of 2 or less can be very irritating, and research
has shown that a slightly higher pH makes for a more comfortable
application without too much stinging, while still having optimum
efficiency.
